Reflections on Web Tools

It's been three weeks now and my journey through Web Tools, Web 2.0, etc has been surprisingly invigorating. When I applied for Web Tools for Educators my expectations were not high, but what a pleasant surprise it turned out to be! The opportunity to see what is out there for educators is truly amazing. Also, the sharing among the other members of the course is most welcome. Usually we don't get to interact with people who are not part of our day-by-day. Everybody's got something interesting to say. We've shared our music tastes, our insecurities, our sense of bewilderment, our hopes, frustations and what not. At this point I feel I must mention that our mentor/guide in all these discoveries has been a fundamental piece in this great jigsaw puzzle we are in. Carla, thanks!
Now I am looking forward to week 4. New discoveries, new bookmarks, new posts, new videos, new everthing! I know I sound a bit maudlin but check what I was listening to while I was writing this post and you will understand. Kudos to all!

Arianna Huffington: The little guy is the true pit bull of journalism | The Guardian

I found this article about blogging and the specialized media. I think the comments made also apply to education. "Blogging has empowered the little guy - levelling the playing field between the media haves and the media have-only-a-laptop-and-an-internet." connection. That's what a teacher should expect to happen to his students with Web 2.0 - Enpowering. Yes,I know. Big words. Lots of work. How to make that work in a regular school environment is another matter altogether. Any opinions? http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2006/mar/14/comment.blogging

Week 1/2 Reflections on Web Tools for education

Hi to you all out there,
After watching the videos about Web 2.0 and having researched a bit about the concept of the Web as an engaging learning tools for learners, I can honestly say that this has been an eye-opening journey. The idea of letting go of the traditional position of the teacher as the sole keymaster of knowledge is daunting but also truly exciting. What lies up ahead? How am I going to deal with this reality? These and other questions will be the main focus of this blog. I apologize if all sounds like endless rambling. I'm just that much wary of this new reality. Thank you.
